The STAR IP is a joint project of 3 European Universities which aims to bring together students from diverse cultural backgrounds and fields of study to gain systems thinking and decision-making competence in interdisciplinary and intercultural groups. By working in multicultural groups, students will analyze Germany’s handling of energy issues (e.g. Germany’s shift to renewables) from diverse scientific perspectives and evaluate different approaches. Supported by experts and several field trips, students will experience the complexity and interrelations that come with this discourse and merge their findings in a so-called “reflectory”. Like an interactive podcast, a “reflectory” begins with the description of a situation, which requires a solution. The user can now choose between different options by selecting corresponding audio tracks. The consequences of this decisions lead to differing, new situations which require again well-informed decisions.

The students’ reflectories will be available as teaching material to educators worldwide in 4 European languages.

Participating students will be awarded 3 ECTS credits for the 2-week-course (20th July to 3rd August 2014).

The detailed preliminary programme can be downloaded here .
